Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in partnership with EHDD, the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive combines the 1939 Art Deco-style University of California printing plant with a new addition encased in a sweeping metal skin. The project involved complex shoring and underpinning to renovate the existing 50,000 SF building and construction of the 30,000 SF addition. The project features galleries, a theater, film viewing rooms, seminar space, an arts lab, a film library and study center, cafe, store, and administrative support spaces.
